Graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Rijeka, in 1987. Obtained MSc degree in 1991, and PhD in 1997. Full professor since 2006. Served residency in internal medicine at the University Hospital Centre Rijeka. Since 2006 subspecialist in gastroenterology. Currently, director of the University Hospital Center Rijeka, head of the Department of internal medicine, and vice-chairman of the Department of internal medicine, School of Medicine Rijeka. First vice-president of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, president of the Croatian society for obesity of the Croatian Medical Association, vice-president of the Society for quality improvement in healthcare of the CMA, president of the Section for pancreatology of the Croatian society for gastroenterology. President of EAGEN (European association for gastroenterology, endoscopy and nutrition), member of the Committee for guidelines in gastroenterology of the World gastroenterology organization (WGO). Member of the American society for gastrointestinal endoscopy (ASGE), European association for the study of the liver (EASL), and European pancreatic club.
