Summary
Measuring the quality of care is an indispensable part of quality management and the concept of its continuous improvement. Measures of patient experience enable permanent and continuous monitoring of the quality of services provided, since patient experience as a dimension of quality of care, together with other dimensions of quality such as efficiency and safety of care, is essential for providing a complete picture of the quality of health care. Patients who use physiotherapy and rehabilitation care services have characteristics that distinguish them from those in other sectors, which requires specific guidance in the development of quality indicators and patient experience measurement models. The aim of this paper is to present the measurement instruments available
in the literature for measuring the experience of patients as outcome measures in physiotherapy and rehabilitation care. The implementation of measurement instruments on the patient’s experience enables monitoring and improving quality, measuring and monitoring the performance of each organizational unit, identifying factors that can be used to compare the quality of care provided between institutions, more complex and objective assessment of rehabilitation outcomes, and improving the efficiency of care provided. In Croatia, there are currently no published studies on measuring the patient’s experience in physiotherapy and rehabilitation care, therefore it is important to continuously work on raising the awareness of all stakeholders in the process of providing care about the importance of measuring the patient’s experience and its direct impact on achieving rehabilitation outcomes.
