Summary
Aim of this brief report is to familiarise Croatian doctors with the availability of clinically proven, innovative, minimally-invasive method for the treatment of benign prostate enlargement. Rezum® is a treatment utilising water vapor as a method for convective transfer of thermal energy for focused and controlled prostate tissue vaporisation. In local anaesthesia or intravenous analgo-sedation an endoscope is used to apply small amounts of water vapor through a needle in the prostate which will by convection promptly be converted back to water, releasing energy which in turn will vaporise prostate tissue causing necrosis. During the following 4–6
weeks a reduction in the prostate volume is observed which results in symptoms reduction and a potential to stop current medication. The so far published 5-year data show excellent treatment success. After education abroad and the procurement of equipment under the proctorship the first four cases were successfully treated as daycase surgeries in Croatia polyclinic and their short term outcomes are great and identical to the published data.
