Summary
Snapping occurs during joint movement due to the interaction between anatomical or heterotopic structures. Although snap is primarily a sound phenomenon, it can occasionally be seen and felt during a thorough examination. Snapping joints typically do not elicit symptoms; however, they can sometimes be associated with pain and considerable functional impairment, necessitating treatment. Snapping elbow syndrome is relatively common, attributable to either intra-articular or extra-articular causes. Lateral elbow snapping syndrome consistently exhibits an intra-articular cause, whereas medial elbow snapping syndrome arises from interactions between extra-articular structures. This article summarises potential causes for snapping elbow syndrome, emphasising their distinctive clinical presentations. Furthermore, particular diagnostic and contemporary treatment methods are presented as well.
