Sažetak
Summary
Antibiotics are routinely used to treat a range of odontogenic infections. The uncritical use of antibiotics has led to increasing bacterial resistance to these drugs, which is not matched by the development of new antibiotic chemotherapeutics. Although necessary for treating acute and severe infections, their use in situations where dental procedures are sufficient contributes to developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Managing antibiotics in dental medicine is a significant step towards preserving their effectiveness globally. Therefore, members of the Croatian Society for Endodontics, CMA, the Croatian Society for Restorative Dental Medicine, CMA, and the
Croatian Society for Minimally Invasive Dental Medicine, CMA, have developed guidelines for the use of antibiotics in infections of endodontic origin, following the general guidelines of the European Endodontic Society. These guidelines define the indications, selection, and dosing for antibiotics in endodontics and clearly outline the clinical situations in which antibiotics should not be prescribed, although this often occurs in practice.
